Radial Circuit Protective Device

Just been asked to jump on a job which needs completing before end of Jan.
The guy I'm helping is 74 and very experienced.
We are doing 8 double bedded flats. 5 Complete and 3 to go.
17th Edition split boards with 5 Circuits
Kitchen Ring - 32A
Lights - 6A
Smoke - 6A

Then we have 2 radials in 2.5 - 1.5cpc. 1 to 2 bedrooms with 6 double sockets total. Then 1 to living room with 3 doubles.

Each is protected with 16A Type B.

I thought it should be 20A, but he gave no explanation as to the 16A.

The only factors I know about is that the cables pass through some insulation (2M) and then are clipped direct and quite short runs.

The question being. Is he correct with his choice????

It doesnt HAVE to be 20A however if you can up it from the 16 then it is fine on a 2.5 radial.

The cable is rated around 26A.

depends on length of run, installation method and volt drop.
You could put the circuit on a 10 amp breaker if you wanted, probably not practical though. Get the guy to explain why he does things, it is the only way you wil learn..

there is no problem running any circuit on any size breaker as long as all requirements are taken into account, its just usally a 20a radial in 2.5 or 32 in 4mm etc....

you have to ask to learn, it sounds ok as long as the area is less than 100sqm rmso
