Good morning I was called to a property last Friday where a customer was complaining about getting an electric shock from the shower and taps.
system is a PME
combi boiler so no heating element to check and shower is manual so no leakage on shower.
i have cross bonded all pipe work, when I put my amp meter around the pipe I get o.o87 MA this is 87 micro amps when I touch my voltage tester on any pipe work only 1 prong I get 2 volts but when I put the voltage tester between 2 pipes ie hot and cold cold to shower or radiator to shower I get continuity.
my question is this permitted and ok

main bonding intact??? could be static.

Sounds like there is something a miss there, if the voltage drops when then upstairs light mcb is switched off, should you not be testing the circuit to see why this is causing voltage on pipework

If it's an old house, check if some numbty has taken an earth off the pipework in the loft, for one reason or another. Had that in my sister house before i eventually rewired the house, a bare conductor into a JB on a lighting circuit for a 500W heater in the bathroom. All cables jammed in the 5A JB whose live conductors rubber insulation wasn't up to much after 45 years or so of service.... lol!!

Seen that before on lighting circuits with no earth (1960's) earth wire taken from bathroom light/heater to water pipe in the loft and connected by an earth clamp l
