temporary supply

I'm arranging to quote for a new build (my first new build). Ultimately will be PME. On plans, the supply head is to be rising in the centre of the property within a plant room.

How/where might you arrange the temporary (TT) supply for the site, when the slab and all the groundworks would be going on all around the final location of the head?

Thanks guys. I just spoke to DNO.
They say their procedure would be (on application).. Shorten existing supply (prior to demolition) to temporary location outside the property.
Cast-in a duct to the new head location (DNO has spec for the duct). After the build, the new supply is shoved up through the duct and old temp supply disconnected.
QED (it seems).

So that's another question for me. I'll ponder on that. - They would need temporary meter and then a new meter.

Most DNO's will insist that you have an outside meter box (OMB). Make sure if going inside the property, that you have it in writing from the DNO ie your application / drawing approved and signed by them. Is there gas (if any) going in same place?

Thanks, then I'll be getting that in writing off them since DNO verbally OK'ed my question on the phone. Customer doesn't want any external meter boxes.

I posted a link a few weeks back to some useful info on this. The thread was about a bloke who wanted to cut the metre box down in size.

Just out of interest really. when i worked for a DNO doing this type of work, customer had no choice unless it was Grade 2 listed or in a conservation area regarding the OMB. Many customers didn't want a OMB installing, especially at the front of the property. Hopefully your DNO do not have the same attitude.

I think so, yes. It's a passivhaus so there may be an unconventional/thick insulation/massive slab, but it could well be a raft with rebar.

Since when do they lay a building foundation slab on insulation?? Insulation will if anything be on top of the slab and under the floor screed.

Not anymore matey. The current trend is going towards putting your oversite/slab/whatever on TOP of your insulation, particularly if using underfloor heating as that way your mass becomes part of your thermal energy store.

Is this also to cut down on radon gas leaking into the house

LOL!! With the size of slabs i'm used to seeing, the insulation will end up the thickness of a smoke paper!! I'm just wondering how long that insulation will last too, especially in some of the corrosive soils i've seen over the years!!

Insulation is laid on top of dpm, on top of blinding.... Or often as well will be beam and block.
