Discuss Update: Member Map Added - Find where our members are from!! in the ElectriciansForums.net News and Updates area at ElectriciansForums.net

I think that will be a useful tool for all members.

Cause were really efficient lol
I think @Dan needs the credit for that.

It takes the location from the members profile. I can use their registration IP location, but then that might annoy privacy-conscious people. So I've set it to use the location members give us in their profiles. Which is public anyway.

And we have 56,000+ members. So they're all over the place. Not everybody has filled in the location field though. So you wont find 56,000 on that map.

The ratio of UK:Rest of the world is really low. But we have people from all over. Remember, we've been online since late 2006/early 2007. So it's picking up even the early members too as long as they filled in the location on their profile.

@GMES thought it'd be handy for people searching for a sparky. If they can click the map and find a few locals and PM them or whatever, perhaps get some business via it.

Must be a little village called 'Midlands' in Zimbabwe then. :D

Why not make it a bit more current and remove those from the map who've never posted or who haven't been seen for the last couple of years.

Might be a place called 'North East' in Botswana too!

Because if they get a PM, we've found they sometimes come back! Hence the shed load of members we had a couple of weeks ago that had registered in 2007,8 and 9 and only just posted in the last couple of weeks.

So let's not single 'em out lol

If somebody is looking for a person local to them, it's not hard to see if they've been on recently.

And they have to go to their profile page first before they message anyway. So they'd soon see if they're a trusted advisor or have many posts or have been online this year etc etc etc.
