My favourite plumber was a fella called.....Pete the leak!......how he ever got any work was beyond me ?

How is it that wet pants can charge so much and install stuff as they please?! Never worked that one out. We‘re just finishing up an expensive, high finish job and the plumbers fudged up on nearly all the radiators - pipes in the wrong place. Wet pants blamed the apprentice but he stood over him whilst the apprentice did the install. ?

if your going to be cr4ap at your job, ensure you have an apprentice to blame for your failures.

I’m sure that earth terminal on the grid is there for a reason.... just escapes me for the moment though..;)
None are earthed. There are also standard plate switches on metal back boxes, all cpcs in Wagos.

If my memory is working correctly there are 38 cables in this lighting junction box. No the lid doesn't fit properly.

Picasso would be proud of that.

does the lid have a sticker warning of 2 different colour codes?

A control panel with all emergency stop reset, fault reset, and start buttons held in with ring pulls. Thankfully this machine is no longer in service and the factory is closed. Quite shocking really when you think about it.

That lighting junction box makes me feel slightly queasy...
Where would you start?

Mind you, I found 2 like that in the attic of my last house and everything worked...

I started by taking the photo, then finished by putting the ceiling tile back in the grid.

not bubbling mate...seething. was a plumber stole my socket tester. a plumber stole my set of wera screwdrivers. was a plumber that burnt 10 of my alarm cables with his blowtorch. was a plumber that that threaded his plastic pipes through my cable holes. nah, i don't dislike plumbers, i hate them with a passion ( appart from Barry the Bath that fixes wet things that i come across from time to time. fair price and reliable.if youse on forum Barry, a bottle of Laphroiag would be welcome).).
Yep, thought there might be some underlying reasons :p

I don't like plumbers either...one stole my best Bahco wrench, and tried to steal my wife too...
I really miss that wrench...

Are you sure that's a lighting joint box and not some wetpants attempt at a boilers "wiring centre"

Almost neatly clipped on the left hand side.... must have ran out of clips for the right

Would have been quite a heating system! On that note, time for an invigorating shower.

Last October the whole house has been refitted with class 1 light fittings, including wall lights by a "experienced commercial electrician" who never even mentioned or advised the client there was no cpc to any of the fittings he only listed additional sockets on his minor works certificate.

same house by another classy electrician previous to "experienced commercial electrician"

took me a moment to spot the problem of accessible terminals to be fair.
Just think of them as forward facing ventilation holes. Another thought, it also allows you to probe them without removing the cover, convenient.

most of my work is in industrial control, I see so many contactors, it took a moment to realise that they were accessible to "normal people"

I must admit I also had to look at the photo several times...

The photos below were taken last week inside the attic of a property in Glasgow. These atrocities are typical of what I expect to find, and usually do find, whenever I am called-out to jobs where Barry the bathroom fitter or his fellow muppet Kevin the kitchen fitter have been let loose beforehand. Barely a week goes past where I don't come across such poor workmanship.

How did you get into my attic, JK?
I'm sorry...I should have colour-matched the insulating tape to the conductors...
[automerge]1579472141[/automerge]
Looks like they kept the CPC though...
[automerge]1579472365[/automerge]
Ap[art from the lack of stand-off brackets, the poor termination of CPC, and the lack of any strain relief or other clipping...
not bad really!
Did you remove the insulation blanket or was it cut away by the installer?

They never bothered fitting an RCD either.

This is a tenement building. I don't think there was ever any insulation here to begin with!

Sorry, I thought I saw remnants of loft insulation in a couple of the pics!
Still, access looks quite good...
carry on!

You're quite correct ..... you did indeed see bits of loft insulation. I didn't notice any loose sections adjacent to the downlights which is why I think there wasn't much insulation up there to begin with!

Some thieving bastid stole it then!

When our place was built, they forgot to install the spec’ frost & pipe stat.
Young sparks turned up to install it. He was on the phone a lot, apprentice think he was struggling how to connect it. I was gonna help, but the mrs told me to keep my nose out. He was pleased as punch, when he left. Heres the end result (cant rotate the pic on my iPad).

Well spotted that man. But I think others have. Was going to complain to the developers, but didn't wanna burst that apprentice bubble.

Lol at least the flex looks long, perhaps it will reach the correct pipe!

I think the correct pipe comes in the bottom of the boiler... so I think the flex will be long enough. (could be wrong, but thinking the 2 pipes in view are the flow and return)

Is there enough silicon where the wall meets the ceiling?

The pipe stat should be on tbe return, which is at the top of the boiler.

You should make the complaint, otherwise they may be installing them the same for any number of houses.
If the apprentice doesn't learn what they have done wrong then they will continue to do it wrong again and again, and probably teach the next person how to do it wrong.
