Went to look at a small job earlier, TT system with a Chiltern VOELCB upfront. The board is an old volex split load exactly the same as this...

The only work i'd be doing is installing few extra sockets and a new oven circuit which will all be protected by the existing 30mA RCD in the consumer unit. I'm thinking I should be replacing the VOELCB and fitting a S type 100ma but should I also be fitting another 30mA RCD in the board on the other circuits even though I'm technically not working on them? Also if I were to fit a RCD it'll have to been an ebay purchase as Im guessing new RCD's won't be a good fit?

any feedback would be welcome,
Thanks

Lol, Some websites have protection against their images being hotlinked and parsed elsewhere by other websites. I've attached the image in the opening post.

As part of the job of installing the sockets and cooker circuit you need to assess whether the current installation is safe for the proposed alterations.
If you are removing the VOLECB and replacing it with a 100mA type S RCD then that is the work you are doing to make the installation safe for your other work.
You can assess whether 30mA RCD protection would be required for those other circuits and advise the customer accordingly.

Don’t remove the VOELCB, disable it and mark it as an isolator. They are “fault break” switches, whereas a new isolator is an “off load” switch.

To disable the VOELCB disconnect the earth in/out after ensuring there is adequate earthing arrangements. I’ve used the wife’s black nail varnish the paint the test PB.

As for the 100mA “S” RCD, why? The CU is plastic. OK it’ll spontaneously combust at 00:01 01/01/16.
