got to love the cost saving of not putting glands in the enclosure!!

Needed shifting to the left so the line conductor isn't so short.

Hob circuit lost power but all mcbs are powered up on main board, then notice the main tails are split

no way don’t say someone’s put another consumer unit behind them units to supply the hob! No access at all

had to cut a big access panel in the side of the new drawer unit and found it

kitchen was only put in a year ago 🙄

I have to confess, I do this (sleeved brown) for the occasional PIR where the cable's run externally.

I actually have 20meters of so of H07RNF in 4 core that I bought for this reason, but the smallest I could get is 1.5mm, and it's thicker than armoured. You just can't get it into most PIRs.

Well that's scuppered my little game hasn't it

CYKY that many wholesalers sell as Hi-Tuff would be much less bulky.

NYY-J / Hi-tuff stuff is another option and probably easier to find than Flexishield (as long as you are happy with black), but still on the thick side and I can't recall seeing 1mm versions of it.

NYY-J and Flexishield are fairly nice to work with as they stay neatly in place with moderate fixings, where as the rubber stuff flexes a lot, which of course be useful in some case.

1.5 NYY isn't bulky, and it's the size I had in mind to compare with the HO7 @Pretty Mouth is using, but I mentioned CYKY as its OD is smaller again.

Hope you stuck a RCD 'test' label on the wall above the worktop, directly above it.

What are peoples opinions on using FP200 outside ?

The same as using it inside, if a fire-performance cable is required then it is a good option, if not then there are better choices such as flexshield.
If you have to use FP200 outside then use black, the same as you would with any other cable.

My own dodgy pic. Been testing an empty school with a non time delayed 100ma main switch rcd on TT. It was being a right royal pain in the --- so I took it out of the equation, safe me thinks so.View attachment 100878
I remember doing this when we used to work for the solihull councill in the 2000s , with a robin tester!!

Well yes I was using a Robin tester but that wasn't the sole reason. It was preventing testing of the 30ma rcbos.

I miss my set of Robin testers, so much faster than MFTs!

mine isn't and it's 14 years old. never skipped a beat.
But in your case MFT is Multiple Fluid Tester and it's calibrated for Old Peculiar ?

My own dodgy pic…
Only socket circuit is dismantled to find faulting section. CU other end of house a long way away. All 18v batteries flat. Needed a multi-tool.
Had a mains multi-tool with me. No extension lead.
Options were rigging up builders board and running 16A cables….or…..misusing some kit…

(The DIY adapter dates back several years to a Robin plug in RCD tester and wanting to use probes to test an RCBO)

OK I will bite, what are the Green/Yellows by passing the RCD for.

To stop nuisance tripping whilst testing. It is not time delayed and it kept tripping before the rcbos plus it made testing of the non rcbo circuits easier.

A few pictures from today’s encounters

A garden install of consumer unit and double socket🤣(it’s been tripping out the house, wonder why)

and another cable repair job

Looks like an old builders site temp ?
Really odd set up the cabling went from the consumer unit over the fence and into the garage behind supplying lighting and another double socket in 1mm t&e which the owner has been plugging a 13A EV car charging lead into 🙄

I bet it's an old guy who did that.

This is a strange one, seeing as it's been in and operating for years.
Found it today, in operation, of course.

The face fixings screws where probably tightened with a torque screwdriver.

There's a gas pipe going into that socket!
People have some weird ideas. Not much work on so give the lads paint and brushes to make things look a bit tidier and that's the result....It doesn't cover up the sh8te standard of work of the additions and alterations, though. It's a few years back now but some RCD sockets had to be changed after being painted over.

I do some work at a couple sport centres and when it has been quiet instead of the staff sitting around picking their ears they have been painting all the door frames , conduits , surface trunkings and ever light switches and sockets BLUE to match the walls 🙃

So they have a job changing the RCD socket, eh? Swap it, fix it back....oh, the lugs have snapped.....let's just leave it????

It's happened whilst in use, somehow.
