Originally one all the bedrooms had plaster ceilings. In one bedroom someone added firing strips and installed acoustic ceiling tiles on top. The ceiling tiles were removed during renovation and then a licensed electrical contractor ran Romex along the firing strips to the center light and...
On a test & inspection today, I came across an older Wylex split load board that had been modified to add RCD protection for all circuits (see photo). The main switch was replaced with an RCD (despite there being room to add the second RCD to the left of the main switch). So a fault (or RCD...
Another what code!
This is in conjunction with an EICR I have just carried out.
9.5kW shower on 6mm and 32A MCB. Been in place for a long time, no signs of thermal damage in CU or 45A shower pull switch. Ref method C (where visible in loft), unable to clarify ref method where it is buried in...
I have recently had an EICR on my tenanted 1st floor purpose-built flat, built in 1995. I have received C2 codes for lack of RCD as follows:
5.14 No RCD for additional protection
6.18(a) No RCD for socket-outlets
6.18(b) No RCD for supplies for mobile equipment for use outdoors (this is a 1st...
Good old amendment 3 and the demise of all that's plastic, we have seen many discussions on the good old plastic consumer units, so now for those EICR's where plastic has and will be around for quite some time, SO !!
We all seem to have slightly differing views on this, but here goes.
C2 if...
I know how I was taught to test a RCD, 6 tests in all two no go, two under 300 mS and 2 under 40 mS with no load. But thinking about it not so sure on the no load? We are told there are 5 common types with some others not seen much, type S, AC, A, F, and C. OK type S not used much now, but when...
Today i had the megger dropped from a meter height and is now showing the FUS code.
Checked the fuses, Both are good. Contacts look very good. New batteries installed but still get the same code. I did the reset just in case but no results.
This Megger is not in the warranty, is quite old and...
Planning a home renovation where about half the house is being significantly altered (moving walls etc). All of the wiring, outlets, fixtures, and switches in those alteration areas will be replaced and a new electrical panel will be installed. The other half of the house just gets new outlets...
Luckily we caught this before any water had actually entered.
That's a humidity trap left on the top, nicely spilling over onto the C/U and leaving an obvious rust stain down its side.
We had a word with the tenant and left her in no doubt as to why this is a massive NO NO !!
So my question...
Morning all,
I have been to look at a job this morning to rewire a radial feed supplying two socket outlets off a 20 mcb. The cable from the board is a black pvc 2 core cable(does not look like copper) and has a separate earth run back to the met.
I am currently doing my 2392 and hope to start...
Load of downlights in a flat, all taped connector block joints. No enclosures.
No access above as it's a suspended ceiling with concrete above. Normally I'd be thinking C2, but I'm struggling to see the potential danger here so veering towards C3. Is there any written guidance on this...
Gas bonded with 10mm at front of flat, boiler at back of flat where a 6mm has been linked from it to an extraneous cold water pipe in bathroom.
No other extraneous water pipes in flat.
All continuity good but using the gas pipe as a conductor to link to water pipe.
C3 for 6mm
C3 for non...
Come across this a couple of times recently whilst doing eicr’s. Everything all ok except there is no access to the (presumably) earth rod. The cable just disappears under a patio.
Of course it may not even be an earth rod. It could be a plate or something. I’ve been giving these a C3 as I...
I am a first year electrician apprentice here. I work for a small company so my pool to draw experience from is critical and I'm trying learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. I'm reading the code book so I am aware what the bare minimum is but what resources would you recommend for best...
As per title, what code do you think is applicable when a 63A RCD has a 40, 32, 6 & 20A breakers?
And gas not bonded but was required at time of building (2012) although not now?
It's common in the US to build interior basement walls on masonry using furring strips covered with sheet rock. Is there a proper way to add electical outlets to these walls and is it required by code?
I have searched for an answer to this question but to no prevail.
BS3871's.... should these be changed? I have just done an EICR on a board with these and no RCD for lights serving bathroom but it has an RCD protecting all sockets, shower and the cooker circuit... now I have given 2 x C2 codes...
