Hi I've installed a 12v ac relay but the 12v supply won't pull the relay coil in. It gets it signal from a disabled alarm kit. Multimeter shows a healthy 12v when alarm is activated but relay won't energise. Tried a couple of different relays but no joy. ????

check that the relay is a 12v coil.

Make sure the coil is not too big for the supply it could be you have the right coil but the supply 12v may not be big enough

You dont indicate what you are switching with the relay ? remember the alarm 12vac wil be jus enough to switch the electronics

More information is required

You'd get some clue by looking at the voltage across the coil when its energised. If it's significantly lower than 12V, say less than 10V, then you may need a relay with a higher coil resistance. The relay spec sheet should say what the minimum voltage for pull-in is.
