Hi All, sorry to post a simple question but I'm struggling to get a local electrician to help / advise.
Background: I'm wanting to run a power supply to my new garden room which is approx. 40 metres from a potential power supply in my garage. The garage has a typical basic dres RCD fuse type box with 63A main switch and a 10A & 15A pull out fuses (similar to a large plug fuse) for the lights and plug sockets in the garage! The cable from the house main fuse box doesn't look very large - possibly 4mm (white)? and is SEEMINGLY connected into one of the houses 3 socket ring mains via a 32A Circuit breaker on the main board!!
Question: I'm wanting to know if I can take a power supply from the garage supply to run an external armoured cable (40m) to said garden room down the garden? I would need to power some form of heater in the garden room (worst case 3kw fan heater) + Computer, TV and obvious lighting... Therefor, I need some advice on:-
1. Will the supply cable to my current garage unit be man enough?
2. What cable do I need to run the 40 metres to the garden room - 6mm SWA?
3. Can the external cable be SWA and mounted exposed along my wooded fence?
4. Would I need to change the consumer unit in the garage??
5. Could I use the old dress unit (currently in the garage) for the new garden room?
Many many thanks for any help / advice.... I've spent all evening searching the WWW and have seen so much conflicting info.!!
