If you were wiring 8 gangs of 2 way light switches. Would you wire 8 independent circuits, so 8 no. 3 core between switches. Or would you run a live, and loop all the L1's together, then just run 8 no. 2 core between switches ?
Sorry to disagree, but getting an electrician in doesn't ensure it's done properly![]()
I would love to see a pic of the 8 gang after it's been labelled up because I'm tying to picture it in my mind as to how aesthetically pleasing it's going to look in a domestic environment. Not when it's all labelled![]()
Do you mean electrician or a bright spark ?I am a spark....................

That looks good, I spoke with Hager to see if they did custom labels, but unfortunately not. They recommended some key cutters do engraving. I'm gonna try that. Where did you get your engraver, how much did it cost, can you do switches instead ?I engrave stuff a lot, this is in my hallway. To make this more discreet I could have filled it with white wax, the white wax colour is different enough that you can read it up close but from across the room it looks unmarked.

My advice is just buy a single one instead of a box as it maybe confusing.Might be best to stick with something better suited to my abilities.
That’s banging, I’ve just seen Timpsons do engraving. I’m gonna see what they can do.I had a go at engraving an MK Grid+ switch rocker:

Traffolyte.Seen plenty mistakes when other apprentices tried engraving… Tumble dryer/drier or just having “FF” for fridge freezer.
The engraved letters on white plastic was rubbed over with coloured wax…. (A professional crayon) and the coloured bit stayed inside the cut away part.
We also made plastic signs that were made up of plates of laminated coloured plastic. So the engraved part would cut through the top layer revealing whatever the second layer colour was.
The most common mistake with manual engraving is forgetting to lift the stylus when moving to the next letter!Seen plenty mistakes when other apprentices tried engraving…
If you have no luck your end I'll do it.Why bother, just send it to Freddo
Traffolyte.
Don't forget my commissionIf you have no luck your end I'll do it.
Is that Mach3 / 4 by Artsoft? The largest cost is the licences for the CAD software and the MACH software to run the machine.
Mach 3. I use Vectric Cut 2D Desktop for making up signs and plates as it will engrave simple text to traffolyte and cut out fixing holes and panel button holes and the plate itself. And Stickfont V2.6 for engraving text on switches and things as it is substantially more flexible for text. Was making these ready for this week splitting offices to 3 separate suppliers meters. Is that Mach3 / 4 by Artsoft?
What CAD software do you use?

I only usually bother on posher jobs with nice clients or more heavy industrial work where clear durable labels are more important.
Yes, saves having to draw up designs with measurements etc., send the designs away and then wait for them to be made and delivered. Don't have to worry about minimum order charges and such either. For the latter, it must be nice being able to print your own.
Cricked my neck now.It even make my Brother PT550 look a bit sad, but I am happy with it, better than a Sharpie by a long way, reminds me must make a sticker to go over the Wylex Logo.View attachment 98840
