Good evening,

I’m looking for some advice from experienced electricians please.

Currently having some work carried out by a new sparky due to mine being on holiday. The work he is doing is to an ok standard, but the only thing which has caught my attention in he has placed all the lights, 9 in total on one circuit (16a). Is this ok? Best practice? Meet regs?

Thanks in advance

In more ways than one if he's using 2.5 for the lighting.;)
After you guys all mentioned it I went to see the guy at another job he’s on. He has said to me it’s on 2.5 only up to the first junction box. Does this sound about right?
All I’m trying to get to is it ok to all be on one mcb.
Will it be safe and adequate?
Will it be safe?
Will it keep tripping?

Appreciate everybody’s input so thanks guy s you’ve been real helpful

Anything can sound alright given a set of circumstances. What size is the cable or cables after the junction box.

Okay I have removed the last couple of posts to keep the thread on track.
OP, yes you can have a 16A protective device on a lighting circuit providing the cables are suitable, it is however unusual for a domestic installation.

Brilliant, Thank you, i only have basic knowledge of electrics, so i do appreciate your help/advice.
Would you guys recommend changing the 2.5 to 1.5 up to the junction box and also putting in a smaller MCB as i would rather do it now while the house is getting a small renovation?
Thanks

Changing the feed to the junction box would achieve nothing.

Can you post a pic of your consumer unit.

The 2.5 cable and 16A protective device are not an issue. What could be a problem is the size of cable and/or their installation method from the junction box which may not be suitable for the 16A device.
