Hi, I have been watching a few YouTube videos of other sparkies and one in particular recommends a wholesaler called "consumer unit world" and I thought i'd give them a try as my normal supplier was out of stock of a few items, placed a order online last Tuesday (18th August) as it said everything was in-stock and was expecting delivery Thursday however nothing was delivered, have tried telephoning them but they cant even give me a dpd tracking number for some reason and said some items were actually out of stock but due in that day. Have tired telephoning them today for a update but nobody even answered the phone.

Are they a legitimate company with terrible after sales service or do I need to get in touch with my credit card company and get my money back ?

I would give them a few days then start a claim against the card you used.
things are taking longer than expected at the moment but the aftersales support you have received is not a promising sign.

What did you order?

Some consumer units and associated parts (especially RCBOs) are in short supply at the moment (e.g. Fusebox) and can be difficult to source quickly.

Consumer Unit World are essentially Gil-Lec Electrical Wholesalers, and they are definitely a legitimate company. But I believe the online stock status is not updated in real time, and you can be fooled into thinking they have something when they don't have any left. You need to phone and check before ordering.

I have used them before for a couple of good size orders with no problems at all , I think it was George I spoke to and he was always very helpful, all the gear I ordered came within a couple of days. Haven't used them since just before lockdown due to a change in tactics i.e. me not buying materials!

Hi @Mouse_called_Jerry

What exactly was on your order? A lot of suppliers have been hit hard on their stock/production levels. Covid is having a big knock on affect with manufacture and supply within our industry at the moment. We have one very well and liked manufacturer quoting 4 week lead times on standard MCB's!

I would strongly suggest contractors who don't already plan ahead with the equipment you'll need for your upcoming jobs to do so. You may find your wholesaler unexpectedly out of stock.

Sorry, to answer your question, they are most definitely legit.

I placed an order for type A rcbos fuse box. They had ran out of standard so sent me the miniature at the same price. This was last week so guessing there probably out of a lot by now. But they did get the order next day so was happy with there service.
