Basic wiring question

Hello can anyone direct me to how to do basic wiring such as radial and ring main circuits on how to do it and how it works please I have tried to look everywhere I just want to know how it works like where is it wired into from the consumer unit what connection do u wire into? And how does it work please.

Yes I am Andy do you know any books I can get on this subject? I can't find any anywhere
