Hi guys,

ive always been employed but I am thinking of going it alone this year. What do people think the best competent person scheme is to ensure compliance with part p.

ive herd you have to of been trading for a year for the NIC and was wondering if others were cheaper or had less paperwork etc involved. Thankyou in advance for your advice

Most people only have experience of one or two. However, from what is written on this forum and elsewhere, they are all much of a muchness.

There's been recent promotion via email of a company called Stroma who are quite a bit cheaper than the others.

I think the best one is BSI but the cheapest one is Stroma, make of that what you will.

Cheers guys. I guess you get what you pay for but I mite try stroma for the first year purely to keep costs down. Just had a quick look at there website and it didn't look too bad

They are frankly all as bad as each other but to be honest most potential customers are most familiar with the NICEIC as they have been around far longer than the others you'll tend to find customers will opt for an NIC registered contractor over somebody registered with Elecsa or Stroma.

From what i can make of it, who would really want to work for local authorities these days, where everything is cut down to the bone and the lowest installation methods adopted as standard??

As for the ''Best Competent Person Scheme'' there isn't one, ...they are basically all what they are commonly known as ...''Scam Providers'' with the Emphasis on ''Scam''
