Last line should read 'If further approaches are made, I will not hesitate to refer it to the relevant authorities as I now consider you to be nothing more than a lingering fart'

hmm substitute "lingering fart" for "irritating and chronic severe pain in the posterior" and I think we have a winner....

You must give him a receipt of he asks-
you don't however have to have lots of detail on it

Date
Amount paid

that's it

not even name or headed paper job needed.

Send it post and put in an envelope with extra paper to make him pay excess postage :D

AFAIK - If the payment is disputed (which in this case it is...majorly) then it complicates matters...plus there was a verbal contract agreed, both on the phone and in person and under scots law....verbal agreement is equal to a written agreement....so he has committed breach of contract by refusing to pay the bill in full....a can of worms I doubt he wishes to open...also if he opens that can of worms....then I'll send through an invoice for the callout charge that I haven't yet issued....
might just stick it in the post and not stick the postage on very well...if it falls off...well he'll have to pay the royal mail whatever charge they use now...

Best thing to do is come to some sort of agreement get paid and move on as you did. These scum bags will waste your time and more money giving you the run around. Depending on how much work you turn over meeting people like this is inevitable. I had not had one for ages but my luck ran out and had three bad ones in last two weeks.

Scots law and English Law...2 separate entities
For example under Scots law you have ownership of yourself..therefore suicide was never a crime (concept of being unable to commit a crime against yourself) unlike in England where the ordinary person's status under the law was different and suicide was a crime..

Also under Scots Law you currently still need corroboration of a witness statement, unlike in England where a single person's word is admissible without corroboration...also meaning that when your arrested in Scotland 2 coppers tend to be present.

Other main difference is there are 3 possible jury returns - guilty, not guilty and not proven. The latter means essentially that the jury aren't convinced of the prosecutions argument beyond a reasonable doubt, but they aren't convinced of your innocence either....

Oh yay...had trading standards up today....seems said customer has a filed complaint with them...though nothing they are interested in....seems he tried to get me shut down and is threatening a lawsuit....so can't say too much...but needless to say...glad I have decent insurance and legal cover...
Seems he had a report done by another electrician (whose name they wont give...) who has claimed the work is safe albeit "not competently done nor tidy"...which says...not much...especially if they won't publicly put their name to it and especially when the circumstances of the job weren't included...
One plus...Trading standards didn't find any cause for action and told me that in their legal viewpoint that there are no unreasonable nor unenforceable terms in my T&Cs....though issued me with standard forms regarding cancellation rights.

Now found out he has trashed my name on Yell...well and truly trashed it....annoyingly my other customers who were satisfied didn't write any reviews...asked yell to take it down...whether they do or not is another matter....urgh...stressed right out.....perhaps I should take up a career as a dog walker or something....
