I've been asked to 'remove the light cable over the front door' so as I was passing I decided to take a quick look before contacting the tenants.

Picture is taken from the path, the head, meter and CU are in the storm porch outside what is now the front door. Presumably the cable I'm to remove is the pendant set.

Thoughts?

I suspect the manufacturers installation instructions would state their products (of this type) are only suitable for installation indoors. As that porch is missing a door, then the manufacturers instructions, haven't been taken into account.

When was that CU put in? Date shows 2020,but that might just be last inspection.
An IP rated CU, or properly boxed in would be fine.
Cables leave the CU in flexible conduit? but whether they are glanced into the CU correctly?

I think that has always been like that. No outer door. Check the neighbouring properties.

You can clearly see where there was once a door, and it looks like it was taken out quite recently judging by the paint on the brick and the shinny old screw fixing that has been cut during removal.

Whether or not the CU was installed before or after is difficult to tell. My guess is it was exchanged quite recently in 2020.

Hello Andy.
It looks as though an external door has been removed in the past. If correct, this has resulted in a hazard if drifting snow or drizzle gets in. The client will be astonished at the cost of re-locating the service inside the remaining doorway. I would advise the client to re-instate the door and frame and when it's done then tackle the light. If you do the light first, the chances are the door will never get done and you may well be the last one that touched it if anything should go amiss. Not good!

Certainly looks like what used to be the front door & frame has been removed. Not sure how long it was there for but unlikely to be as long as the supply head which looks to be older than I am.

Planning to leave this well alone until at the very least they box it in or make the storm porch inside again.

Any spider that got in the house I used to pick up and put outside, until one bit me, the swelling was quite pronounced, no pain, but it itched for a few days.

Update:

The letting agent doesn't know anything, she has sent me the job based on a Fire Risk Assessment. The FRA doesn't mention the CU, head etc. so that is a non issue.

I'm to "put a blank" over the wiring which removing the rose will expose.

smh

In surprised they are wanting it removed, it would be better just to put a decent LED fitting there.
