Right ... Just been nudged to set this up by Paul.M and sounds a good idea following recent threads I've done in the Arms..

He has asked for me to quote for some additional work that the other one was supposed to come back and do.

But he’s not having him back now. Can’t think why as he used MK sockets which are quite decent.

The earth wire is connected to the bell push. I didn't take the push apart to see what went on from there.

That MK socket was probably damaged by extreme heat from the live pin on the plug - quite possibly the fuse wasn't tight enough, but it's pretty inevitable if you put a constant 3kW on it for any length of time.

I did tell him the plug would overheat as they’re not designed to run at 13a constantly for 15hrs a day (shop is open 0600-2100 daily).

But I guess he thought I was trying to make money out of the job.

Call out for yet another cooker element (4th in last 2 weeks) Fortunately local place in town had one in stock and was open today. But that dodgy one tested fine. Can only assume as it warms up the inner element touches the outer casing and causes a trip. Assume it’s from manufacture as it’s at the back of the oven with a metal fan casing over it and no damage to either the over wall or the fan casing.

Le Sparky Extraordinaire saved Christmas dinner.

Not all heroes wear capes. But we do have beards.

Had an identical one on my 180A oil filled arc welder for about 30 years, plugged into a MK surface socket from the same era. Never showed the slightest sign of heat damage.

The one with a bolt replacing the fuse?

Bolts are made of steel, so that would have been a right bodge.
13A fuse with a bit of 30A fusewire soldered across it is much more sophisticated
