Got a phone call the other day. I’d repaired a cable which I think I posted in this thread a while back. It was next to a gas boiler and had exposed copper.

Anyway they had a plumber out as the boiler needed replacing.

Said plumber told the tenants that the repair was dangerous as it should be in a junction box. So they rang the landlord who then rang me. Spoke to landlord and said I’d go and take a look but can guarantee it wasn’t a dangerous repair.

Photo attached of the repair I did.

Each conductor individually crimped, the cable is double heat shrink covered. And it was clipped back, I just pulled it forward to check it (and get a pic) and clipped it back again.

Can anyone explain what’s dangerous as I’m at a loss?

I did tell the plumber to stick to pipes and leave the magic to me.

He's probably assumed it's just been twisted together and taped/sleeved. I suppose it's good to be on the safe side. As long as he listens to you and updates his awareness then all is OK I suppose.

As long as he learns and doesn't presume that every in line joint is done to that standard and can recognise so.

it is switched off (disconnected) i doubt that it would stay on if you reset it.

I wonder why they felt the need to double up on the live link but not the neutral ?

lots of diy folks understand that the live carries the power to the appliance and is therefore "dangerous" perhaps they thought that they should double up just in case?
maybe to reduce the current on the neutral they have used the earth instead and that is why the "improvement" has been added??

Surely they could have done it neater than this... maybe drill a hole so the cable pops out behind the hand dryers just to the right of the FCUs? Or at least loop the cable neatly. They're not even remotely level either!

Call out this morning for an elderly couple as they had no power due to the RCD tripping all the time. It also caused a flood due to the toilet pump not working and overflowing. Electric had been off all night it seems.

So diverted from the job I was going to and went to sort the problem. After a bit of testing and fault finding I discovered this. All done by an ‘electrician’.

One of the diodes in the light had blown causing the fault. Maybe due to the fact it could pull 32a if it wanted to!

Here is said board which is apparently fine… The T&E is the old supply cable. And the yeehaw glanded armour is supply to another shed.

If they raised the hand driers hopefully the fcu would be at least level
