Here is a little peach I found today whilst attending a faulty immersion heater, work was done only 2 years ago by a big national company fitting new heaters! Nothing seemed to be fixed back properly and the lid fell off the isolator as I took the clothes out that were hiding it! :(

Whats wrong with that? Once we’ve left the EU all this health and safety rubbish will be out the window and we can go back to all that make do and mend stuff. The British empire was built on innovative solutions like that. What do you think a Royal Engineer would do if he didn’t have a 13amp plug for the laser guided missile he was installing ... and sod part P? ;)

I installed the mains supply and isolator for a future fire alarm system. We recently went back to the location to see the fire alarm system had been fitted. Thank god the system was wireless. Don't know why I bothered measuring the fixings, neatly dressing the cable and making sure all the slots in the brass screws were at the same angle.

Seems they needed a repeater, cables lashed into the nearest socket circuit.

3ph service head in clients "storage cupboard" a few months ago... Yup 415 between those exposed conductors.

Its UKPN here so hopefully by the year 2055 they'll send someone out with a tube of superglue to "fix" it, in the meantime I've asked him to maybe not clout the cupboard contents of his metal handled mop, clothes airer etc etc etc into it

In a lovely old pump room [may share photos in another post if anyones interested as it's generally in excellent condition]. Lighting still wired in VIR singles. More recently someone has spliced in with harmonised singles to supply a row of T5 flourescents in an adjacent building...see the crushed and sweaty looking VIR neutrals below.

Saw a load of old conduit wiring and thought oh no rubber. It turned out to be fabric covered plastic insulation. The telephone cables hacked into the box and the earth tapped off of the lid screw were less positive. Insulation and earth loop readings were excellent throughout the installation.

Do you reckon someone's done that as a DIY meter move? Can see the gas board doing that.
Nope.
When I left today at about 3 o'clock, I told the householder to call British Gas and report it. It was changed a couple of years ago.
Got a call at 5.00.....they were on site changing it. What a response!
Only problem now is a L-E short on the shower circuit. That lot's low down in a kitchen corner unit
Another bit of a job helping someone out.

Pete, your post has been edited as we are stamping out the pointing of fingers towards people that take the short course route into the industry.

found today. new water meter installed. incomimg water is plastic. then copper from stop cock to meter. then plastic from meter to copper in house. united utilities installed bond from copper before meter to plastic after. fair to the guy who told customer it was pointless, but his boss says that's whathe has to do. .the mind boggles
