This is a relic. Not sure what the RCD is supposed to be protecting as not a single thing in the property that I’ve tested so far will cause it to trip at 1 or 5x 🤷🏼‍♂️. Test button works ok though. 😂
That needs changing mate. Sent you a PM with a video about them.

Thank you. I was wondering how I’d now test it as I believe they’re supposed to trip at 50v.

I don't think I'd worry about testing it!

Skip is what you need for a VOELCB. Obsolete many decades ago and, mostly wont work any more.
Or the Crabtree museum, most of the VOELCBs were made by Chilton.

Actually, skip is what you need for the fuseboard too!

As you probably have found out by now, the VOELCB was the predecessor to the RCD but worked on a totally different basis and one that is now considered quite unreliable and long overdue for replacement.

However, the twist in that particular tale is some forms of EV open-PEN detection work on the same principle of observing a CPC to true Earth voltage!

Thanks for all the input.

I knew of the VOELCB but hadn’t actually seen one in the wild. At least now I know why it wasn’t tripping on a RCD test. 😂😂

Here is the correct test equipment:

You are way too young to have seen them when they were your only real option for TT systems. I think the first time I saw one was mid-70s and even then it was being replaced!

Blimey, they don't make em like that any more!
