Evening peeps,

looking to get a decent ELCM for max price of £300 and was wondering if anyone could recommend one please.

I have searched the forum and have come up with the following previous recommendations but am unsure which one to go for as they were in the last two years or so???
[h=1]Kewtech KEW 2434 Earth Leakage Clamp Meter
[/h][h=1]Di-Log 10uA-100A Leakage Clamp Meter DL6507
[/h]Metrel MD9270 Leakage Clamp with Power Functions
[h=2]Fluke Testers 360 Leakage & Resistance Clamp meters (this one is out of my budget atm)[/h]Thanks,
Dipzy

The Di log is meant to be quite good, as is the kewtech one (but more expensive), test meter also do a TM EL9809 that has a good resolution.

These are capable instruments for basic leakage currents, obviously the higher priced ones can be better, but depending on your use the ones you mention are good for low current, tenths or hundredths of milliamps.

Lots of posts on this. Many of us use the Dilog and it's a good piece of kit for the money. Every electrician who carries out fault-finding should have one.

Thanks for your replies guys, the Di log 6507 was strongly recommended previously too in a lot of the posts that I read and then became confused which one to go for :dizzy2:

Do you have any views on this one please Metrel MD9270 Leakage Clamp with Power Functions ?

Yes first thing I did Murdoch, please see my op. Apologies if i didn't find the most recent one you're referring to.

Yes, as I've said before, the Metrel MD9270 is a good piece of kit. Nice stable readings when doing leakage measurements, even amongst other current carrying cables.

The peak hold is useful; I've used it to look at current inrush problems with cheap LED drivers.

Also gives real and apparent power, so you can check the actual cost of running a piece of equipment, even if the power factor is nowhere near 1. I tested the quiescent current on a wireless PIR receiver recently. A straight current measurement would suggest about 10W, but when you connect up the voltage leads as well, you can see that the real power is only about 1W.

ps, a search on the forums using the model numbers will find more info.

Thanks for the pm HandySparks and above suggestions to everyone. It looks like it's between Di Log and Metrel :-)

I've got the fluke. I must be the proud owner of flukes only elcm sale in Britain as nobody has mentioned it once.

Hi Sledgehammer I did look at the Fluke 360 but it was way too much money. I got the Metrel from Test-Meter and happy with the product + the price.
