We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine. :)

Posts and likes get counted towards your total stats in this thread.

So GOOOD MORNING PEOPLE - WEATHER IS NICE TODAY IN STOKE. I'M THANKFUL IT'S FRIDAY, HAD A RUBBISH WEEK. THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Sun?! Sun?

When we were young we didn’t get “sun”… You’de be lucky if we got a flicker of a candle flame to get a tan…..

Anyway… making the most of this week, then off up to aviemore for a few days. Just me, the wife and the dog. Have my birthday up there, then back for the election.

Daughters driving test didn’t go well yesterday. Only 5 minors, but they said she didn’t check her mirrors enough while reversing.
I thought that was a bit strict, as I know she is very particular.
Hopefully she gets to resit soon.

I mentioned a few weeks ago when the sun came out that I don’t work in shorts. Work trousers should give some protection.
Last night I proved my own point.

Nipped out after 6 to swap over a neighbours hob. I had already had a shower and was wearing shorts around the house… didn’t bother getting changed again.

Whatever cowboy had fitted the hob on the first place had used Araldite or something to stick the hob down onto the worktop… it would not budge.

Homeowner went at it with a knife, trying to get under the glass hob to cut away whatever it was… ended up smashing the glass in several places, showering the worktop, the floor, my tools with tiny shards.

As good as he was at cleaning it all up… he didn’t find every shard of glass…. my knee did, though.

Warm trickles of blood running down my leg. Nice.

My family used to live a few doors down from the driving test centre, I also used to repair a lot of stuff for them, strangely enough all 8 of us passed our tests first time :)

You should have said I'll come back when it's out.

Would have then had time to put your trousers on :)

Talking of glass, the inside pane on one of our conservatory glass roof units crazed and deposited all over the inside of the room the other day, could understand if it was the outside pane due to impact, but this was the inside pane, it was a recent replacement unit so can only think it was a manufacturing fault, it is being replaced free of charge.

Gosh glass disasters all overr the place! Everyone try not to injure themselves today!

I did not touch the glass bits, I have an twin turbine industrial vacuum cleaner that is powerful enough that I don't let small children or pets near when using it.

Last night, I was just sitting jumping up through the higher up sky channels, got to the 350’s… music videos.
MTV, meh….
Found “The Box” and the screen said the channel closing down today!
(Also Kerrang)

Nostalgia memory incoming

When I first moved away from home in the mid 90’s, my little rented bedsit in not the best area of Dundee… my only entertainment was a Nintendo snes and a “fixed” Telewest cable tv box

“The Box” was one of the only music channels on at the time, and was advertised as “music television you control”
Every video had a 3 (or 4) digit code… and viewers could text in with the code and a message that would be printed on screen.

Of course, back then….. an hour would consist of repeated showings of the same song…… usually Robson and Jerome. 🥺

Well, today I'm still in Great Yarmouth. Already done todays work and cant start anything else until tomorrow so quiet day for me. Came down for breakfast and it looks like the whole of the town is here. Told theres a long wait for cooked food so its just a bowl of porridge for me. There's a car show on the seafront so going off to see that. Maybe aquarium afterwards.

Kerrang closing??? Nooooooo......
Yep… kerrang, the box, kiss, 4 music and Magic are all shutting down.

2 days to go, and the wife has decorated already…

I had a good weekend - I went to visit my family in York, had a nice catch up and ate some good food!

@littlespark I have a big birthday this year too!! (I was in the robson and jerome fan club so it was probably me getting it played all the time!! Oh the shame!)

How was the car show @Moley ?

@littlespark 50? Still a youngster. I can't even remember my 60th but that could just be me going senile
@Lou Car show wasn't bad. A few nice cars. Loads of American motors. Took me back 40 years when I was single and bought myself a Camero

Today has been slow. I'm at Snetterton. Waited over 2 hours for the permit. Only just started work.

Ugh slow Mondays - The WORST!! But hey it is nearly lunch time!

I went to an awesome vintage flea market yesterday in York it was huge and had all sorts of stuff! Got a few bits and pieces, glad dan stayed at home, he would have hated it lol we did three laps of the place!

50th birthday? I remember it well, although it was a looooong time ago.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's about when the long decline starts.

We’re up at aviemore, and the site has a quad bike course.

The stupid tufts of pink in the helmet were added because my darling wife told them it was my birthday.
The way you are dressed it looks like typical Scottish summer weather.
How does it feel to be an old fart?

Aw Happy Birthday!! My feet haven't touched the ground much these past few days, did you have a good one? Looks fun on the quads!

Is everyone ready to go and vote tomorrow??

It's now 14.00 and no permit. Been told we 'might' get one by 16.00. Luckily we are here for 3 days and our job can be done in one day.

POLLING DAY! Anyone already been?

Well, not the best start to the day. I'm at the Kings Lynn Premier. It's currently having some refurbishment work done. Hasn't been a problem until 6.15 this morning when the workmen started work on the room above mine. I don't have to be in until late ish morning so was hoping for a lie in. Oh well......

Breakfast? Pah! Went in for my breakfast. Didnt want cooked so I ordered a bowl of porridge as soon as I got in and got myself a bowl of fruit. I ate the fruit and waited for the porridge. I kept waiting. After 15 mins I gave up and walked out. I wouldn't mind if the place was full but there was just me and 1 other.
Saw a different gut at the Premier reception when I got back. He went through the 'goodnight guarantee' and told me how to claim. Not really much use to me as the company pays.

We came home yesterday after our few days away "up north"... and i wanted to share something with you....

We stopped for a comfort break at House Of Bruar... which is a retail/ resteraunt place off the A9... Full of Tartan, Tweed and "Two quid for a scotch pie!.... Whit!"

Anyway... as i stood, um, having my comfort break, i could say.... the gentleman next to me.. who looked definately older than me... was busy texting, one handed, and occasionaly brought his other hand up to swipe the screen....

Almost put me off my flow.

So if you think its only youngsters glued to their screens..... think again!

I'd have got my own breakfast, charged it to the company and told them how to claim from the hotel.

Today I get to collect my new van. Brand new Transit. Most of the day will be spent getting everything out of my old van and working out where to put it all in the new one. I already know the racking is totally wrong for what I carry but there's nothing I can do about that. Plus the new van is trackered and limited to 73mph :-(

Ooooooh That is an exciting day!! Are you going to share some photos when you get it later?

Morning all.

Get the new system sorted out and adjust in a few months mate it's always well worth building a bit of boxing in or whatever to make life easier down the road.

Probably teaching you suck eggs there I've only had to do it twice in my life lol usually whole job (business) change so car to van, van to pick up, pickup to car. Basically filled a garage or shed every time lol

Today I terminated the ends of 2 cables that I have installed over the last 3 days.
I ache and feel like a zombie.

100m of 4 core swa 150mm split into a 40m and a 60m run through 2 walls with 3 x 90 degree bends along the run on new cable tray.

this morning was the first day that i got back to site and didn't sigh, look at the cable and think arggh, its still there!!!

When I was younger I used to love big cable pulls, as I have aged not so much!
Thank goodness for modern cable pulling equipment, coupled with rollers, makes life a little less painful the next few days!
Not many sparks play with cables that weigh over 10kg per meter and flex about as easily as trying to bend a tree limb.
its a slow measured process and there have been times when i have spent an hour or 2 adjusting the way a cable bends and sits on the tray before continuing with the next section.

biggest i ever did was 240mm 4 core, required many people and a fork lift to drag it through each section. if i was ever asked to do the same again, i would decline and suggest a company that is used to working with that size of cable.
i think it was about 30kg per meter but felt like 100kg per meter!!

Biggest I have been involved with so far was a 185mm 4core at a job in Daventry some years ago that was 120 meters up over a machine shop then down through a duct in another building.
Many hands, cable Jacks and rollers used and a winch system to get it up over the machine shop.

Not installed anything over a 50mm for about 10 years and they can be trouble enough!

Last one we did was a baby 35mm 5core only 50 meters but up and over another machine shop to supply a large twin headed plasma cutter.

This morning I am going to visit my daughter briefly to uplift a power supply, then it's off to Luss on Loch Lomond for a walk and a good lunch.
I'll be having the lentil and bacon soup and the steak pie!

Today I will be sorting out my fly fishing tackle ready for next week when I hope I will feel well enough to go to the river, this mornings breakfast will be Eggs Viennese.

I’d rather have a viennetta for my breakfast… a full one to myself!

Had an issue with my van through the week. Was testing a mobile food trailer, and needed 230v power… so got myself a 150w inverter that plugs into the vans 12v lighter socket.

Lights worked fine, but the start up current of the fridge blew the van fuse rather than tripping the inverter.

Cue laying at a funny angle in the van pulling random fuses looking for the blown one.
One fuse was misplaced into the wrong slot, and I drove home with no indicators or brake lights.
Trying to fix that issue, I dropped the fuse into the centre console, and it’s slid away under the floor somewhere….

So that’s 2 new fuses I needed. But now all ok.
