i thought i had a power supply problem recently and there wasnt a neutral going into the machine so i checked everything to earth and seemed to get power into the power supply but when i tried a new one it never worked and the actual fault was a fan that was breaking a fuse, can anyone explain why i got voltage here i cant get my head round it!!

no it was 240v on both wires the live and neutral! it was a kind of cnc wire eroding machine, i dont know if its something different in them that causes that

if you've got 240v N/E that sounds like there is no neutral connection from the supply to the appliance.

yeah its only 3 phase and earth supply but i was getting on my meter 240v to earth from both the supply terminals (240v and 0v) of the power supply and it wasnt working, so i thoight it was the power supply that was knackered but really it was fine
