Hello, boilers and thermostats are not my strong point. Can do following the manual, but unfortunately Hive model is not mentioned in the boiler manual...
Been doing new electrics for a kitchen refurb, customer brought this new thing and I got a bit stuck on it.
Got some pictures from both manuals need some advice on how to hook it up. Dont fancy frying up the boilers pcb.

from hive manual (its the model only for central heating)

boiler manual (vailant combi)

current situation over there, only mains feed coming in.

No i did not! On the last picture you can see that there is only mains feed from a fused spur coming into the boiler.
Want to know how to add hive controller into existing setup.

There are 3,4,5 terminals on the boiler (3 and 4 linked together at the moment), terminal 5 is for neutral according to boiler manual
on hive:
live, neutral (those I know)
1 common - got no idea whats that for
2 heating on, 3 heating off - those should end up connected to 3,4,5 in the boiler?

4 core flex to the stat plate from the boiler - 3 is permanent live, 4 sw live and 5 neutral.
Put a link in the stat between permanent live and common in the stat.
Then heating on is your switch live.
It's basically a 1gang 2 way switch with an additional feed to it to run the control side.
So the link to common is the feed into your switch and then your out turns on the boiler.
Hope that makes sense....

Dont follow the information in the quoted post or you will fry the PCB in the boiler!!!! The boiler has a volt free contact.

Dont agree with that. I agree with leespark post #4 boiler pl 3 should be used to feed hive common connection, the sw live terminal 4 may require lower rated fusing than the 3amp supplying prog room stat! These are fused down internal to boiler and you can invalidate the warranty if connected incorrectly like post #6
