Help needed - Trip switch will not go to on position

Hi, new to the forum, I was wondering if anyone could help with this?

Was down at my mates house there, and his electricity is off.

Looked at his board, and the main breaker had tripped.

I flicked it back on, and halfway up, the lights came back on, but when it got to the top, it just tripped again.

Apparently he gets water into his kitchen lights sometimes, but I tried to flick the switch with the breaker for the lights switched off, still no joy - anyone shed any light on this? (pardon the pun)

I assume your talking about the RCD,the one with a test button
Neutral(Black or Blue) for the light must be down to earth.This will still give you earth fault and trip the breaker.The only way to find out is to disconnect the neutral for that circuit and try again but I seriously advise Qualified Elect to carry out test.

I would suggest that you try flicking all circuit breakers off,then try to reset main switch(rcd)If it holds,then flick circuit breakers on one at a time.This might help determine which circuit is at fault. But Ehh water into his kitchen lights ,whats that all about?
Agree an electrician should check out,or maybe a plumber you need?

He gets a leak from upstairs and unfortunately the water goes into his kitchen light. Anyway, thanks for the advice, sounds like a job for a qualified elctrician, as you said.
