How can this be a Class 1 fitting

Class one light fitting , well the top bit is earthed , but the main light can't be surly as its wired in 2 core flex ,class 1 not earthed nice eh

Got plastic lamp holders says class 1 on the box so that should be the complete fitting not just the top !

Should it? I haven't got copies of the manufacturing standards which set the rules about this. I assume you have?

This would depend very much on what the "class1" description described or alluded to... The addition or omission of a single "s",can alter the actual legal definition,whatever the manufacturing standards are,of the specific place in the world,where this is from.

Surely if a light fitting is 'class 1' then it would apply to the whole fitting, not just certain parts of it? Daz

No mate more metal in that ,wouldnt be worried about the earthing if it was plastic

The Chinese make up the rules as they go along - its probably earthed at the top rose where the connections are then double insulated through the rest

I think class I can have double insulated parts. Think metal light switch with metal rocker - the plate is earthed but the rocker is double insulated and has no earth connection. In the case of your light I think the chain would count as 'casual or fortuitous contact' with the earthed parts.
