How many holes can you put in a wall?

Hiya!

Got a customer who wants me to install a cooker hood but it apparently requires a new hole for the venting as the existing one is too low down to utilise. I'm just pondering whether coring out another hole a foot or so above an existing one on a load bearing wall is a good idea structually. I assume it comes under part A but I can't find any information on how many holes you can put in a wall. Anyone have any thoughts?

I handled this situation by using adapters to the rectangular ducting to bring the vent higher and building the extractor slightly out on stud work.
It was a bit of a pain but looked ok and worked well.

This will be fine, the wall won't rely on every last brick or block to remain sound.

Fill the old hole with concrete and rubble before coring new.


I thought most hoods are fairly standard for venting heights. How come the original is so low?

I don't know. Going to check it out today. Customer said it was an older hood with a rear facing vent

Have done similar once or twice , I usually core out the new position and then cement the bit that I cored out back into the old hole...if that makes sense

It does although I'll probably hash it up (mix the pieces up or drop them in the void) lol
