i am thinking about starting an electrician course i live i plymouth
need some advise please... which places have got a good reputation
for people with no experience etc thanks luca

all depends on yor age, whether you can get an apprenticeship and do a proper course to become a proper time served spark, or pay out for a short course to be a domestic installer.

Not to be rude, but if you want a rewarding career, then electrical work is not for you.

Under-appreciated, underpaid, and cutting eachothers throats to get work.

If you head out of England, over the bridge into Piskieland, there's an industrial estate round the back of the petrol station at the top of the hill (opposite side to Carkeel) and in that industrial is a training centre that is run through Cornwall College or something. Worth trying there mate.

Hi telectrix, i don't mind paying out for a course and hopefully become a domestic installer
the thing is after i finish the course don't want to end up working for big companies just for pocket money
for years to come just to gain work experience

thanks for your msg Billyhas but i will give it a try
as the old saying goes " he who dares wins" any advice would be appreciated
many thanks

The thing is, this is what you have to do to make money, otherwise no company will take you on, so you will be just another DI with no experience scraping about for domestic work up against a load of other DI's and real sparks who also do domestics.... Experience and word of mouth built up over years is worth it's weight in gold.

It's not all doom and gloom, but short courses to become a DI are nothing more than a scam.

Apprentice / adult trainee collage and work based is the way to go.

Sounds like yet another Lamb to the slaughter!!

Make you wonder what sort of mentality these people have, if they honestly think they can become an electrician in 17 days/5 weeks!!! God help us all!!!
