Hi. Many thanks for the response. The white cable comes from the wall, so I guess it's the electricity mains. Sorry I'm not an electrician. Wish I wasThat most definitely is not safe, looks like it has been like that for a while. Where does the white cable which the cooker is joint to come from?
The element in the electric oven blew. The Hotpoint engineer pointed this cable out. He said that it might be the cause as to why the element blew. It doesn't look right to me. I can't imagine an electrician leaving a job like this.Hi. Many thanks for the response. The white cable comes from the wall, so I guess it's the electricity mains. Sorry I'm not an electrician. Sadly I can believe an 'Electrician' would do this. I have seen such too often.I can't imagine an electrician leaving a job like this.
Thanks Tom. When I asked the Hotpoint engineer what sort of electrician would leave it like that he said " No electrician but a builder...and a cowboy one"Sadly I can believe an 'Electrician' would do this. I have seen such too often.
I would second Westwoods comments.
The cooker has been fitted back to the wall now, but I can tell you the white cable came.out of the wall, which is plasterboard and tiling. That's all I can say. But you think it's definitely unsafe? It isn't the reason the element failed. Can you show where the other cable comes from the wall?
Many thanks for your help WestwardYes it needs addressing.
I suppose you could say that the Insulation tape is a sort of DressingYes it needs addressing.
Hahhhaaa! Good one mainline, but seriously, how should this connection be done professionally? What would a decent electrician do? Any posts would be really welcome and thank you guys for respondingI suppose you could say that the Insulation tape is a sort of Dressing![]()

Thanks James, that's really helpful. Would a professional really tape up a connection like the one seen in the photo? Is it safe trousers the oven do you think?I would expect a cooker outlet plate to be sunk into the wall.
It may be the case that a back box is buried behind the plaster.
If not, some careful chisel work might be required.
If there’s enough space, a surface mounted connection plate may be fitted but that is optimistic.

I wish I could. The oven has been put screwed back in now, but once it is taken out, I'll take some photos. The previous Hotpoint engineer, who replaced the upper element, said there might be a danger of electric shock. That's why it concerns me.As @westward asked, could you provide a few pics.
You haven't shown where the cables go.
Thanks again mainlineSomeone competent would renew the cable from the oven to whatever outlet is there and not have the join.

I think the best and most honest answer is to tell you to get an electrician in to carry out some work , as suggested a cooker outlet plate, ok is behind the cooker, but looking at that bodged connection I would want to put it right asapTo use
