Is this connection safe? Oven power cable connected to electricity mains cable behind oven, sealed with electric tape.

Thanks James, that's really helpful. Would a professional really tape up a connection like the one seen in the photo? Is it safe trousers the oven do you think?

I wish I could. The oven has been put screwed back in now, but once it is taken out, I'll take some photos. The previous Hotpoint engineer, who replaced the upper element, said there might be a danger of electric shock. That's why it concerns me.

If the connector is behind the oven, then I wouldn't think it to be a danger.

You could replace those connector blocks with an inline type or one with an enclosure.

I think the best and most honest answer is to tell you to get an electrician in to carry out some work , as suggested a cooker outlet plate, ok is behind the cooker, but looking at that bodged connection I would want to put it right asap
