Hi all!

Ive been asked to quote for a largeish electric underfloor heating job. The guy hasnt decided on the floor finish yet, it will depend on cost of system to some extent so have to give a few options to begin with.

This is just for one room

Ok the room is 9m x 5.5m = 49.5square metres @ 150w/square metre = 7.4kw

Holy moley that is alot of power! i thought.

Can someone tell me:

1)do you think it is mad to be having UFH in a room this size (cost wise)?
2)apart from using a contactor to switch this load is there anything else power wise i should consider?
3)how much it would cost to run on a typical day rate?
4)has anyone done one this sort of size before?

Ive done a few smaller UFH systems before so am familiar with the DEVI products that ive used before. such as the undertile matting. ive also used the single wire type where you fix to celotex with screed on top (surley would be a nightmare on this job).

Any thoughts are much appreciated. many thanks in advance.

Yes I have.
Think mine was around the same loading and I also used a contactor. There are so many factors to think about that working the running costs out are not that easy without more info

I use Warm up loose wire under floor heating, total load would be around 6.4KW for this size of room. But you would need to stats.

Thanks so far, the customer has now told me that the focus is on using tiles. so I will base the design on this.

Ive always used DEVI in the past, any other good products out there worth a look at?

Thanks again

I've just done an office equating to 6kw in one room with other smaller rooms at about 2-3kw per room, we used devil single wire in screed system, use the supplied bands to hold it down and it is perfect, the effectiveness is amazing too...
Had to use a contractor for the 6kw room, luckily had an appropriate cupboard to mount it in...
Great system though, would fit in my home and to me that means it's worth having...
