Looking for City and Guilds courses being run in the North East

Hello,
My name is Tom, this is my first post on here. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne and I am looking to begin my training for the C&G 2365 level 2 and 3. I work in the mobile telecoms sector but it is dead at the moment. The only available posts are for Electrician/commissioners. I am a very experienced commissioner with some electrical experience and completed the 17th edition course in 2016.

I am looking at doing the C&G 2365 level 2&3 courses as quickly as possible. The only courses I have managed to find are approximately a year long and none of them are up North. I also wondered if many people have completed the 2365 level 2 & 3 via home study/distance learning and whether its a viable option? If so, does anyone know of a company in the North East area running such courses?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You could try Northumberland College . They used to run those courses , but the last time I enquired about the 18th they had staffing problems.
That was a few months ago so the situation may have been resolved.
They were a great resource in their day.

Hi Tom

I did my training at Pass in Stockton. A well run centre it was a nice experience. 2 courses of just a week each got me NICEIC registered about a year later after passing the inspection.

They taught me how to test my wiring and installations the in's and outs of BS 7671 and how to strip and terminate armoured cable rather incongruously! I say that because I had next to no practical training. I fit my first CU a few weeks after for the first time!

That was all about 7 years ago. I think my work is pretty neat these days. I'm a Stroma registered electrician. Some of the stuff I did early on though was not the best. Hand on heart though I can say I haven't done anything drastically wrong or unsafe. I got a good grounding there (pun intended) . I'm technically minded anyway and was head and shoulders above my kitchen fitting class mates so I was confident undertaking my own work after.

I've always craved more learning though from a more structured course. Not just bits picked up along the way. I'd say if your keen and in a big hurry then look up PASS in Stockton. If you have the time take a longer course you'll definitely benefit in the longer term.
