Not to my knowledge.

Suggest you look at a fire/smoke alarm company website!

i would only fit one if BS7671 required it. e.g. cable buried in wall <50mm deep without eaerthed metallic protection. much prefer to run cable surface.

BS 5839-1 25.2 (h)

There is no prohibition
Its as Tel stated
The circuit supplying the fire alarm should not be Rcd protected unless it was necessary to comply with Bs 7671
Even if required it should have its own rcd device

don,t do fire alarms but usually install feed to panel ,last one 16mm swa direct from main section board 135mtr run not allowed to feed off sub-boards

If possible I always wire the supply as a dedicated feed from the board surface to a fused spur (Unswitched) No need for rcbo or rcd that way.
Also, most fire alarms have battery back up, and when mains failure occurs, ie rcd/rcbo tripps. That constant buzzing from the panel usually gets somebodys attention.

Fire alarm must be wired via a double pole lockable switched fused spur, to comply with BS5839 and BS7671.
An rcd supplying a consumer unit is not recommended, but an individual RCBo supplying the fire alarm spur would be advised to cover both standards.

Can you show me where these requirements are in BS7671:2008 and BS 5839 as I seem to be missing those pages from my copies of those documents.

He may be interpreting 25.2 c) and recomendations for that section with reference to 29.2 e)

It may not be a regulation, but it is recomended

If we are refering to the isolator being switch, this is a recommendation to be followed on installations of fire alarms, BAFE, LPC and govening bodies will class this a a failure if not followed.
This subject has been talked about on this forum. BS5839 P1 section 25.2
