My old electric cooker (1985) has 4 rings, 2 of them are always warm when the rotary control is OFF, otherwise the cooker works fine. I expect the ring controls need to be replaced. Do I need a regulator or a simmerstat, or are they the same thing? The rings are each 2KW. Thanks

I thought you still cooked on coal fires in Birmingham.

Play nice Tel or he'll burn your chips on his warm ring!
Coopern, have you found a manufacturers instruction on it even though quite old? You could ring around some repair shops - plenty of knowledge there and spares probably. All the best

i,d think that the control switches need replacing. each one will be thermostatically controlled. all in one control. if you have a multimeter, you could check to see if the things actually switch on and off as the elements warm up.you need to be careful, though, as the terminals are @ 240V.

I'm not being funny but a cooker that is over 30 years old, I think you've had your monies worth mate! :gru2:
gertcha, HT, old is better. things were not so much in the throw away society then. look at me!. on 2nd thoughts....... maybe with that comparison, it's time for a new one.

My oven is 3 years old, was professionally cleaned in January, and it's still a state. Can't imagine the state something could potentially be after 30 years. No ta.

ours is 20 years old. just had to replace the bottom element in the top oven, as it was nacked. otherwise it's good for another 20.
