Hello

I have been asked if I can do some shadow gap lighting in a bathroom. Honestly never heard of it before but after a bit of googling it appears to be some sort of trim that gets fitted where the ceiling meets the wall then I assume you fit some LED tape with in it.

Has anyone fitted it and could shed some light on it please.

Thanks

Nope I've never seen this stuff, and I never used the aluminium extrusions yet, that the other guys are on about. However, got a job coming up soon where customer wants similar lighting effect,so will keep both in mind. The Renderplas Shadow Gap beads look fairly new, tried all the links on the web site, but no more information about it. Only thing that puts me off, is the actual led strip. I've installed some with the 3M adhesive, but some of the ends come unstuck. Seen you can get some strip with clips, but not sure they're gonna fit in any profile?

Shadow gaps are often used at floor level, where there is to be no skirting. Done well, it's a classy look, but more expensive to achieve than using skirting. The plasterboard is stopped short of the floor (or ceiling), and the effect achieved is as in the name....a shadow gap. Now, with advent of led strip, people are looking to put lighting in the "gap".

Sounds more like a dirt trap to me. :smiley2:

you could use IP rated LED strip fixed into the shadow gap but on many jobs I've seen problems with the adhesive particularly if the surface is not scrupulously clean. Aluminium extrusions with a diffuser can hide the failing adhesive issue. Obviously with out a suitable diffuser you will be able to see the light from the individual LEDs rather than it looking like a seemless strip of light like the picture you displayed previously.
