Hi guys and girls. Got a problem on a lighting circuit.

The circuit has a junction box which I have just labeled up.
Theres only 5 lights
OUTSIDE LIGHT x2
SIDE LIGHTS x4
MAIN LIGHT
BEDROOM LIGHT x2

the main light and side lights work the problem is the rest on the light none of them switch.
A volt test shows 240v at the switches with them in both positions.

IR test shows >500 on my fluke
continuity shows fine
earthing is ok.

Anything you you need extra please ask. I'm stumped on this one. I know it's going to be something simple.

Don't hold your breath, the OP has ignored my questions!

So....... lets just assume its new and work from there

Im not ignoring anyone. It is a new circuit. But not by me. The guy who installed it is not answering his phone obviously he knows he messed up. I said I would see what I can do as its a friend. A good friend who trusts me. It's an out building not even classed as a permanent structure.
I know I'm not fully qualified but I am learning around trying to organise a wedding and keep my family's head above water. Can't afford to do an aprenticeship. Joined the army from school and since being made redundant I've been trying to become an electrician and asking people for help to guide me. I want to do this for a living. That's why I'm getting qualified. I just need some help getting experience. I'm sure in your day straight from college you had people help you through.

Yes we all had people help us through learning the trade, they were our mentors responsible for our apprenticeship training.

This is what I need but I can't find anyone who's willing to let me come with them a couple of times a week and at week ends. So I can slowly start to gain experience.

From our point of view taking on a trainee is a massive commitment and responsibility. even the best trainee will cost time and money to begin with, but that is ok when they are making the commitment to work with you for 3/4 years full time as it evens itself out over time. With the added hassle of trying to plan work around someone who only wants to work a couple of days a week is just too much hassle.

I have in the past taken on a couple of people like you who have done a short course in electrical installation as a means of changing career. They all had lots of nice new tools and pretty certificates but no idea and were quite frankly a danger to themselves.

I am willing to work for free even travel to site to meet whoever. I'm a multi trader. Carpenter by trade but I can plaster, bricklayer, tile, plumb etc. I have many tools none of which are nice and shiny. I'm not expecting to become self employed in a week. Nor do I expect to gain a load of paper with my name on saying I can do it. What I want is the chance to gain some experience. Get a start at the career I want.

Or the one when he says....hold onto this wire, can you feel anything?.....No, then that must be the neutral.....!

One of my Electrical Engineering Professors recommended us all to go home and undo a plug socket and stick the Neutral (cct still energized) on us tongues to impress our friends!!!!
