Looking to a join a scheme and was wondering if anyone here was a member with Blue Flame? Annual membership of £295 dropping to £195 after 3 years. Or if anyone could recommend any other cheap schemes now that stroma are no longer taking applicants.

Got asked twice today if I was Blue Flame registered...….........................................................………whilst watching a formation of Gloucester Old Spots fly past overhead Red Arrows style.

Just had a look and it seems after 3 years of assessments wit ha pass outcome they will likely not assess you anymore but cash your cheque.... I can see the cowboys lining up to join now, 1 good job per year then they are free to fleece all and sundry... I appreciate that for a lot of people having no assessment will not impact the quality of the work but for some it will be a nightmare scenario.

That said if they were clever they would weed out the rogues and not register them after the 2nd year, keeping the legit decent sparks where no site visit is required then they can basically print money as they have no real need for area assessors

I agree completely. I imagine ill only carry out about a dozen notifiable jobs a year so don't really want to spend £550 on another scheme.

thought that was esso blue, (as a lad i used to have a paraffin heater in my bedroom and it was my job to walk 2 miles to shop for paraffin ,good old days)
Yes , there was Esso blue .
Blue flame was the name of the Alladin paraffin greenhouse heaters.
My grannies house was lit by glass bowled paraffin lamps. The blue paraffin looked great illuminated. The out houses were heated by the Aladdin heaters in the winter.s-l640.jpgvintage-esso-blue-paraffin-can_14939_pic1_size1.jpg
