Bs 60898

Hi guys, sorry for asking a dumb --- question but I just started to test new builds after a 7 year absent. I always known Circuit Breakers in a domestic CCU as BS60898. But some one looking at my paper work today said that I was using the wrong number. I passed my 17th about a year ago a don't recall there being any change. Can some one clear this up for me?.

How old was the board you were testing?

There are different BS numbers for OCPDa which should be visible on them, that's what should be recorded on a cert not just a generic number you think is correct. The reason being the max Zs values vary between them.

Read the bs number written on the circuit breaker and then write it in the box on the certificate.

Current domestic MCBs should be BS EN 60898.
Industrial MCCBs BS EN 60947-2
However if they are RCBOs then they are BS EN 61009.

That's what I thought, I'll ignore all the ---- posts on here. why do I need to look at a number when I all ready know it. My post was simply asking had there been a recent update to the regs changing these breaker as all my books still say that the 60898 is valid.

Not looking at the info on the ocpd's will bite you in the backside. Did you assume the KA ratings and current ratings also.

How do you know you have put the correct info if you haven't actually looked at the device itself?

Allways take photos aswell any info you have missed can be seen on your photos

You are obviously making observations of yourself with the comment you have made as someone with "real experience" would not have needed to start this thread so who is the real sado

You asked if the number which is written on every breaker has changed, bearing in mind you will have checked the number on the breaker as part of the inspection to confirm that the correct breakers have been fitted.

No one has "trolled" on this thread. All we have done is pointed out a error in your method of filling it a cert and the lack of looking for the CORRECT information to put in the relevant box. Seems you have a problem accepting criticism.

bs60898 is for sp mcb's

the 100a dp main switch is BS EN 60439-3

BS 3871 are older mcbs. Not sure when they were phased out. Maybe someone here will know.

BS3871 stopped in 1994 and manufacture of parts complying with it should have stopped by 1999.

Did the person looking at your paperwork go to site to verify this, if you had done your inspection correctly your answer would have been "that was the BS number printed on the MCB"

Because you are using the same verification and observation system that you use on site when doing inspections to read these USEFUL posts

So back to the OP, if it a brand new CU then the choices are probably 60898 or 61008 - but then what do I know - or more to the point what do you know?
