Discuss Advice Regarding Part P And Becoming A Domestic Installer in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

I currently have city and guilds level 2/3 2330. And I understand t that I'm not fully qualified yet for my gold card till I get my full nvq! Also I'm about to do my 17th edition and have been working as an improver/Mate for the last year. I'm pretty comfortable regarding 1st and 2nd fix of domestic premises. However I have been reading up on part p courses and what it allows me to do. However there are still some grey areas.
1, Does having a part p certificate allow me to carry out domestic installation work and issue a certificate of the works that it's been carried out to the regulations ?
2, is having part p useless unless I become registered with a scheme such as nic eic?
3, what is required such as certificates for me to be a free to say I'm a domestic electrical installer !

I'm trying to read up up on it, but still slightly confused!
Sorry for sounding a bit silly.
Thanks

Our industry is great when it makes things so difficult that even people working inside are confused. I just wish they would simplify matters!

If you want to work as a DI (as I understand the English side of things) youll need your 17th Ed and knowledge of the building Rges to register with one of the many scams (schemes) and then show competence/knowledge via an assessment. Not forgetting liability insurance, calibrated test equipment etc.

Good luck.

As far as the government are concerned you need a qualification preceding a L3 NVQ, current wiring regs 2382 (15), 2394 and 2395 (or equivalent, this may be part of the 2330 L3 but I do not know the course content?) I know the 2365 L3 contains an inspection and testing element. and be able to prove two years experience in the element you are applying for or competence and ongoing professional development. Different schemes have different interpretations of the rules so you are best to approach them to ask. The Part P qualification is of no use to man nor beast and doesn't allow you to do anything. And all the other things as advised in the previous reply such as Pli, calibrated test equipment etc etc. The above link sets out the qualifications you are supposed to have or equivalent experience.
