When you come to do work in a property either an addition or alteration to a circuit, what are you doing when you find either of these RCDS in the board? (BS4293 Current breaker & ELCB Voltage operated breaker)

I know there obsolete now so should be taken out of service, correct?

So would you tell the customer they should have a new consumer unit?, The old type of wylex board this was in had the netural bar just behind the MCB's which would stop me fitting an RCBO.. On the main switch side.. (for me to comply to regs)

So is the only option to change the CU ?

They're both stand alone units aren't they?
Put an RCD in a 2 way enclosure. Tails in, tails out job done.

So that would be 1 RCD protecting the whole CU. Thats against regs isn't it?

A fault would trip the whole board if it was used as a main switch.
There is a 100a main switch and a BS4293 Obsolete RCD. I'm guessing one of the first split load boards.

An RCD should not be used as a main switch. 314.2

For the circuit(s) you're working on install a small consumer unit (2/3 way depending on how many circuits you work on) and use rcbo's for each circuit. Split the tails before the old VELCB and there you have it. All the work you have done is up to scratch. But first of all try and persuade them to take the complete new CU option :).

You'd be lucky to get £500 round here!

Would none of you continue to do the works on a board that had a BS4293 RCD in it..?
