Cyp cat 5 cable problem

Hello
I have a customer that has a CYP 1H2HBTE system
With a sky plus hd box

The system has two tv sets in different rooms

I was asked to check the cat5e rj45 connections between the transmitter and receiver for the lounge and the connector seemed a bit loose so i said i would put new rj45 plugs on the ends

However once done this stopped working completely

I spent 5 hours with 3 types of RJ45 cat5e plugs and 3 sets of crimping tools trying to get this to work again but to no avail

Ive used my cat 5 tester to check my connections and all ok

I purchased a pre made cat 6 patch cable and it all works again


The cat 5 rj45 plugs seem loose when connected to the equipment
The cat 6 patch lead is nice and tight when fitted so i can only think my connectors are too small or not making contact properly

Can someone help me im a bit out of my depth now

Can cat6 rj45 connectors be slightly bigger externally?

Is there a special rj45 for this equipment

What cat 5 cable tester did you use?

Just a cheap one not anything expensive
I did think maybe its the existing cable and my connections may not be solid but ive run cat 5 for internet connection cctv before and never had a problem terminating rj45s

Can there be a reason that my rj45's feel loose and the premade patch lead is tight

A dodgy batch of plugs? You should maybe try putting a cat5 module on and testing the cable that way.

I tried plugs from 3 suppliers?

Is there a difference in size of rj45's?

No rj45 is a standard size, there is rj11 which is only 6 pin, you sure it doesnt need a cat6 plug on it?

Thats the only thing i can think of that maybe it needs a cat 6 plug

My patch lead is cat 6
The existing cabling is run in cat 5

Is there a difference between the plugs?
I believed it was just internally the pins are staggered to allow the cat 6 thicker cabling?

I dont think there is no, which makes this strange. As i said earlier may be worth putting a cat 5 module on it and trying it that way.

I am not good with the module wiring i can never understand the pin sequences?

Yes, or just any end you have reterminated.

Thats the problem with basic modtaps, they dont give too much info if anything is wrong.

then you have crossed a core or two.

check the whites its easy for them to slip unnoticed into wrong slot in rj45 plugs (no such thing as cat5/6 plugs there rj45 or rj11 for telephone)

as long as both ends use the same order then it doesnt matter what colour you use.

No ive remade the ends 10 times and deffinately not crossed the cores in the rj45's

What i meant by the numbers quote is i can never understand how to make off cat5 modules

Just carry out a simple test by plugging both part together witha short lead and watch the numbers light up sequentially.

Im going to buy a 1meter patch lead tomorrow
Chop it in half and join it to my cat 5e cable via bt crimps
If that works i know its the connectors i was using

are you sure that cable is good? it wouldnt be the first time anyone has had a bad cable

Well the existing cable was fine before i messed with it
The problem was that the infa red receiver thing had got wedged under the sky box so couldnt communicate

I didnt realise this i thought it was the rj45 connectors that were dodgy hence how i started getting myself in this mess
