RCD Tripping.
A leak to corpse.

Worked fine until the CU upgrade.

View attachment 29021Responded to a call out to replace the usual broken pendant and glossed over light switch at a tenants property. Went to knock power off to find the main RCCB switch was already in the "off" position. That's odd I thought. Anyway on removal of the lid I was confronted with this delight!
Spoke to the tenant to find out if anyone had been tinkering. Apparently a few "months" earlier they had contacted the out of hours emergency electricians to restore their power. This crew were from the main contractor that service all the council properties in the city. To bypass a main switch is one thing but to connect the mains directly to an out going shower circuit is quite another. No one was scheduled to come back and rectify it either, as far as I was aware.
"Our boiler has stopped working"

Ha, I knew there would be one!Well that's an obvious one cos the end of the cable is connected to anything...!
Nice neutral connection
Nice earth connection on the same cable, was just shoved through a hole in the bottom of the mcc.

There aren't any crimps underneath that tape!
A fine example, perhaps, of the future state of metal clad consumer units in damp conditions in years to come? Hmmm - "all rust must be earthed". Ha! Bonkers.
The only C1 I can see is because you have the cover off and there is a loose line from the controller in the centre a bit close to the earth bar.
The board is a mess and seems to have two supplies, the MCB on the end is a bit odd fed from the supply side.
"MCB on the end is a bit odd fed from the supply side." of the main switchlook a little closer ..
i will give one more guess.
a clue... i got a belt after turning off both isolators
"MCB on the end is a bit odd fed from the supply side." of the main switch
I suppose this is the C1, no ready means of isolation for this circuit.
If I had had a belt of that, I would have stuck my hammer through the lot of it. That would have isolated it alright, back at the sub-station. It would of cause have been a reflex action and I could therefore not be held responsible for it.![]()
if in doubt short it out XDwhat happened, i was going to remove a fused spur so the walls could be tilled, i was the only one in the lodge so just turned off the main switches, i know we should check, but you would think it would be off.
As i got hold of the wires, i did swear a bit.
Lesson learnt for all of us.
if in doubt short it out XD
thats not good, im surprised no manufacturer makes mcb's with a switched N connection that is single slot widesomething i didnt mention . it gets worse, because when the main isolator is off and the rouge mcb is on the neutral bar is live and then of course all the neutrals that leave this bar become live..
thats not good, im surprised no manufacturer makes mcb's with a switched N connection that is single slot wide
