I use MS Visio.
Its easy to use and good for electrical. mechanical, floor plans, flow charts the lot.
 
ms visio, what version of this do you use.

Also can this be used to draw domestic installs. where sockets are, lights, switches. I had a look at smartdraw but all the symbols dont look like what i see in the on site guide for sockets or pull cord switches.

Its the 2007 version (here is a link for a 60 day trial)
I only use it for machinery circuits but there is an online database that may have domestic symbols.
Usually I create my own components if I cant find anything specific, and once created can easily be copied and added in to diagrams.

You can also save the diagrams in Autocad format, so handy for me as I send them to our drawing office and they tart them up.
