Did a small PAT test on a shop fitting site the other day.

Was happily testing 110v appliances and running Insulation @ 500vdc and a touch current test (the tester was connected to a 110v supply).

I came across 2 items that simply forced the tester to 'reboot' though - a Router (1200W) and a Circular Saw (2000W).

It seemed the initial current surge to start them up was too much for the tester?

Does this make sense to anyone?

Thanks
Neil

The Metrel MI3304 BetaPAT can only source a maximum of 16A (3680W@230V or 1760W@110V) for leakage current and apparent power measurements in the run test. The 110V, 1200W Router should test normally, but the motor may have shorted turns and thus overload the tester. 110V, 2000W circular saw will obviously overload the tester.
