Good evening,

1) Is the motor current on the nameplate always the full load current: the maximum current the motor can draw without there being damage to its winding insulation.

2) Often in motor books, I see the term nominal current? is this the current that the motor draws under normal operating conditions under load?

3) What the the motor rated current? is this the same as the FLC?

Thanks,

Ewan

FLC on the plate is the current the motor will draw at rated voltage and frequency, delivering rated output power. Most motor standards require the motor to withstand small intermittent mechanical overloads, and allow for a tolerance on the supply voltage. So under some conditions, the FLC might be exceeded without damage to the motor.

I would read all these terms with similar meaning, although I suppose there might be subtle differences in the definitions according to context and whether any particular standard is being referenced.

Feeling better Lucien?

Not a great day actually Pete but I'll say more about that in the Arms thread!
