We can’t really say if you need the supply from UKPN upgraded, as it’s unclear what the existing capacity is and what your needs are. But it’s likely. This should have been sorted before CU change.

The pyro is a mineral insulated cable with a copper armour, in my opinion the best and my all time favourite..
A competent electrician would be able to sort out the whole set up for you..
The dno would need to be on board though to facilitate the necessary work.

Also looks like the main fuse isn’t clamped..
Do you have a cat??

The consumer unit was installed today

Have you payed the electrician for the work?
Have you received any paperwork (electrical certificate) for the work?

In answer to various questions (and thanks again to everyone)

- This is part of a loft conversion, the builder subcontracted the electrician.
- This electrician has done all the wiring for the conversion - plugs, lights for the loft floor, smoke alarms and lights in the middle floor.
- There is a problem with loudly buzzing dimmer lights
- I have almost paid the full fee to the builder. The rest of the work has been good with no major issues. This was supposed to be one of the final tasks.
- A part P cert has not yet been provided
- Yes I have two cats.

Obviously I am horrified to read all of this. I will speak to the builder tomorrow but I am wondering if I should get an electrician in to look at this independently.

so, have you received any paperwork (electrical certificate) for the electrical work?

Strange question but did you ever actually see the electrician in person?

That is exactly what you need an electrician because it would seem the works currently carried out have not been done to the standard of a competent person.

I have a ten year old who could tell you what is wrong with that CU at a glance! It is more an issue than it 'needs a gland', if someone had undertaken that work for me they would never work for me again. If they are that sloppy at the board what is the rest of the installation like?
