Pressing Sky Q button sets off smoke alarm!

I installed some aico smoke detectors about a year ago. They are interlinked with radio bases.

The customer has just discovered that when she presses one of the buttons on the sky Q box the smoke detector goes off for 5-10 seconds.

Before I change the smoke detector I wondered if there was anything I could do? I wonder if resetting them all and then coding again may help?

It might be worth a call to AICO in case they have a known fix for this, I'm guess they are all using a license-free band so no real coordination between radio users.

Still, could be used for all sorts of mischief!

I have heard of other chaos caused by Sky Q box.

Amazing that a company such as Sky would release a product that is capable of stamping all over the radio waves like that. Even cheapy Chinese ebay purchases don't normally behave that badly!

We use radio frequency like many other appliances within domestic properties (Radios, TVs, WIFI, Phones, Microwaves, Satellite etc). Our alarms operate within the sub band of 868 MHz as per the UK regulations and this is used for emergency services only.

The interference between our units (if they are house coded correctly) and any other general household items are quite impossible.

At this point, I would suggest making sure that the house coding procedure if done correctly.

This is bonkers stuff.

Since I moved my rooms around, living room into dining room and vice versa…. My skyQ box just decides randomly to lose the Wi-Fi access from the BT hub.
Have got to reset the Wi-Fi, fill in the password again.
Although I have aico smokes, none of them are rf.

I hope I’m not going to have to deal with a load of disgruntled customers with a house full of rf smokies going beep beep when they’re trying to watch Naked Attraction

I’ve Sky Q and lots of other WiFi devices, and don’t suffer with any problems. You can change the channel on the router box, that sometimes helps with such issues. Also if the devices are close to each other.
