Evening

I have been asked to wire up some wall lights. The wires have already been installed and are poking out of the walls. The lady that owns the house doesn't know how they have been installed and what they are connected too! Is there a simple way of finding out what they are connected too?

Maybe check inside the CU to see if there is a cable "poked" in there also, if not be aware as they could be live. Bell them out with other nearby light fittings if no luck at the CU.

personally id just use a multimeter and bell the cables out

I suggest you call out an electrician to sort it for you mate. Don't want anyone killing themselves.

Old school slang used in the trade for continuity checking circuits for identification purposes. ie bell the cables out.

use a multimeter set on the audio setting, when you get continuity the meter gives a sound
its really not hard. so long as you have a multimeter
