Been working through the night on a rush job, just nicely getting to looking at the CU. It needs moving about a meter to the side. At the moment, the cables enter it from above, and all the knockouts have been removed on the top of it. This has obviously destroyed the IP rating of it. When I move it, the cables will be entering from behind, but that still leaves the gaping holes on the top. My brain is tired, just wondering how you guys would go about sealing the top and restoring the IP rating.....if you would at all. :)

glue a piece of upvc on top. can usually get a few scrap bits from plastic window companies. failing that, a piece of mini trunking lid.

Thanks Tel. Pretty obvious really. The guy I'm working with (a builder) wants to use insulation tape. Haha. I told him that would last about a week before starting to peel off. In the past I've used bits of trunking amongst other things, just really checking that it's acceptable, due to the fact that I'm being watched by the homeowner. Think I need to knock off and have a bit of a lie down before I touch the CU! Nighty night :)

Last time I did this I used 2 bits of self adhesive trunking (cut the bottom off with the sticky on it) one inside and one outside then self tappered through the trunking and what was left of the top of the board. I know it was a bit over the top but better safe than sorry, specially with a board at the lovely new kid height.

alternatively, you could buy a new CU with just a main switch in it , then transfer the guts of the old board to the new one.

thought that was for stuffing chickens etc.

Well if we were talking about circular conduit/gland knockouts then glued blanking grommets would be a suitable sealing. But in this day and age i suspect were talking about oblong/squared knockouts, which make life just that little bit more difficult!! ...lol!!

i did it once with a section of old bucket....the type that you get tile grout itin......worked a treat.....
